When I first heard this album years ago it always stuck with me in a deep and meaningful way. Today this album still carries me through the burdens of a military career - echoing the truth and hardship of leaving for war and picking up the pieces.

Some points of critique:

There were alot of story errors, for example: Fassad doesn't hide the money in the well. Fassad buys the pig farm from Butch in order to create a little military training camp near the village. Butch hides the money in the well and Fassad takes it later on, because he saw were Butch put it.

Also the "mini-game you can't win" takes place in the last chapter, not in the second. The dancing monkey you describe gets introduced in the third chapter. In you sentence it seems like they happen after another or at the same time, but there a large timespans in between, someone who values theatre should give more credit to such things. Just so many anachromisms that I'm not sure if you really played the game or just watched a TAS on Youtube.

You don't get a reward for Hinawa's death. The Draco Fang you get has only one purpos, which is to fight the Draco that killed Hinawa in the first place. If anything it's a means for revenge.

As much as you like to compare the game to conventional storylines, theatre and such, that philosophic intro was much too long and off-topic.

When the game is not influenced by them, similiar stories or the "conventions of theater" become irrelevant, furthermore the game doesn't "strictly follow" the later. If a dog crosses the street, while he coincidentally has green light, it doesn't make him law-abiding.

Lucas has no "quest to stop capitalism from ruining his village". Again I wonder if you took your time to play the game thoroughly and reflect what you just have experienced.

The Magypsies help and encourage Lucas to prevent the destruction of the earth and the only thing they fight is the antagonist of the game Porky.

Porky is more or less the source of all evil that happens to Tazmily Island. He came from Onett, which was an American city (see Earthbound). He just brought all the stuff he knew from his world, to this new world. The modernisation never actually transformed the island into a worse place, just a different one. The situation only got worse, because Porky, with the help of his army, did some mischief and used it for his own good.

It never turns into a dystopia. For example, when they started using the prisons, which they didn't need before, since there was no crime, a stray dog was in there saying that he liked it in there and wouldn't want to come out.

Even the villains in the game, with exception of Fassad maybe, are quite sympathic and in their own way cute and naiv like most characters.

To sum it up, the game is neither

absurd - it's just your typical post-modern shit, just because you aren't familiar with something that has actually deserved the term creative doesn't mean it's absurd

nor

has a moral, it's just a cute fun game and the society critique, indicated in some parts, quickly gets absorbed by the fancy colorful world that doesn't lose it's humor even when the world is about to end.
All the oh-so-bad things just turn into a flaw, like the flaws of a person, which end up adding to the persons individuality and even get perceived as somewhat cute

So, besides making Americans more paranoids than they already are, what is this movie about? I fail to see the explosion of action, it's just a movie for highbrow bored people who want a movie they can quote from. This film picks on everything it can be picked on in order for it to be rebel and to show that you can't trust anyone - not the Congress, not the attorneys, not even the press. Does it mention something about Afghanistan, too?

I think that Mike Nichols is a brilliant director. His movie adaptation was definitely at par with the best-selling book.
